Sticky Honey Chicken
Ingredients
For the Chicken:
- 1 ½ lbs boneless, skinless chicken thighs or breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
- ½ cup cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 2 tablespoons oil (vegetable or sesame)
For the Sticky Honey Sauce:
- ⅓ cup honey
- ¼ cup soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (optional, for more umami)
- 1 teaspoon sriracha (optional, for heat)
- 3 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons water (slurry)
For Garnish:
- Sesame seeds
- Sliced green onions
Instructions
1Prepare the Chicken: In a bowl, mix cornstarch, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder. Dip chicken pieces into beaten egg, then coat them with the cornstarch mixture.
2Cook the Chicken: Heat oil in a large pan over medium-high heat. Add chicken and cook until golden brown and crispy, about 5-7 minutes per side. Remove and set aside.
3Make the Sauce: In the same pan, add garlic and ginger, sauté for 30 seconds until fragrant. Pour in honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, oyster sauce, and sriracha. Stir well. Add the cornstarch slurry and stir until the sauce thickens (about 1-2 minutes).
4Coat the Chicken: Return the crispy chicken to the pan and toss until evenly coated with the sticky sauce.
5Serve: Sprinkle with sesame seeds and green onions. Serve over warm rice or noodles.
Notes:
- Use chicken thighs for juicier meat, but chicken breast works too!
- Double the sauce if you like extra saucy chicken.
- Add red pepper flakes for a spicy kick.
