Easy Wonton Soup Recipe

Wonton soup is a popular Chinese dish that is made with a savory broth, wontons (dumplings made with thin wrappers and filled with a mixture of ground meat and seasonings), and a variety of vegetables. The broth is typically made with chicken or beef stock and may also include ingredients such as ginger, garlic, and green onions for added flavor. The wontons are boiled in the broth until they are cooked through, and the vegetables are typically added just before serving. Some common vegetables used in wonton soup include bok choy, napa cabbage, and shiitake mushrooms.

Wonton soup is often served as a starter or a light meal and is popular in Chinese restaurants around the world. It is typically served in a bowl with the broth and wontons, and the vegetables are added on top. Some people like to add condiments such as soy sauce or hot sauce to the soup to add extra flavor.

In addition to being a tasty and satisfying meal, wonton soup is also relatively easy to make at home. You can make the broth and wontons from scratch, or you can use store-bought broth and premade wontons to save time. Wonton soup is a versatile dish that can be enjoyed any time of year and is a great way to warm up on a cold day.

Easy Wonton Soup Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 quart chicken broth
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon white pepper
  • 1/2 pound ground pork
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped green onions
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped fresh cilantro
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped water chestnuts
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped fresh shiitake mushrooms
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped Napa cabbage
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • 36 wonton wrappers

Instructions:

1In a large pot, bring the chicken broth, soy sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, sugar, and white pepper to a boil over high heat.

2In a medium bowl, combine the ground pork, green onions, cilantro, water chestnuts, mushrooms, Napa cabbage, and egg. Mix well.

3Place a wonton wrapper on a clean, dry surface. Place about 1 tablespoon of the pork filling in the center of the wrapper. Using your finger, moisten the edges of the wrapper with water. Fold the wrapper in half diagonally to form a triangle, sealing the edges to enclose the filling.

4Bring the two corners of the longest side of the triangle together and press to seal. Place the wonton in the pot of boiling broth. Repeat with the remaining wrappers and filling.

5Reduce the heat to medium and simmer for 5 minutes, or until the wontons are cooked through.

6Serve the soup hot, with the wontons floating in the broth. Enjoy!
