Ingredients
  

For the Sauce & Patties:

  • 4 hamburger patties 1/3 lb each
  • ¼ cup barbecue sauce for basting
  • 4 tbsp processed cheese spread e.g., Cheez Whiz
  • 4 tbsp canned sliced mushrooms drained
  • 1 pinch black pepper

For Assembly:

  • 4 burger buns
  • Mayonnaise
  • 4 lettuce leaves
  • 1 tomato sliced
  • ½ onion thinly sliced
  • Dill pickle slices

Instructions
 

  • Make Sauce: In saucepan, combine cheese spread, mushrooms, and pepper. Heat on low, stirring, until melted and smooth. Set aside.
  • Cook Patties: Season patties. Cook on med high 3-4 mins per side. In last minute, brush both sides with BBQ sauce.
  • Toast Buns: Lightly toast cut sides of buns.
  • Assemble: Spread mayo on bottom bun. Layer lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles. Add patty. Spoon warm cheese sauce over patty. Top with bun.

Notes

  • Sauce Tip: If sauce thickens, stir in 1 tsp milk over low heat.
  • Fresh Mushrooms: Sauté 4 oz sliced fresh mushrooms in butter until golden; stir into cheese sauce.
  • Rest Patties: Let cooked patties rest 2-3 mins before assembling.
